How do you take your horror comedy?
Dark and mean, light and musical, or frickin’ scary with subtle humor? I look at three totally different types of horror films with varying levels of humor. THE LOVED ONES (2009) The overwhelming positive response I’ve seen online to this … Continue reading

Headless – the freakiest part of Found is now a movie of its own
Indie film Found from director Scott Schirmer has quite a cult following. I blog about the film here, but in short, the main boy in the movie is obsessed with a horror film called Headless. The footage from that faux … Continue reading

The Toolbox Murders 2…religious torture porn?
WTF did I just watch? Honestly, this film is as whacked as its history. Apparently it was intended to be The Toolbox Murders 2. Then writers and directors were up in the air. Business issues came up. The sequel idea … Continue reading

Once again, a rundown of a variety of fear flix in various subgenres, including zombies, demons, slashers, possession, a Halloween anthology, and more! THE LOST (2006) I groaned out loud when I saw that The Lost was another film based … Continue reading

Borderland and Turistas – just stay home and watch movies…but not these
Once in a while—or twice in a while in this case—a movie comes along that: isn’t scary so it’s not horror; isn’t suspenseful enough to be a thriller; and isn’t exciting enough to be an action film. And that perfectly … Continue reading
Stream Queen 2: horror anthologies
Horror anthologies are all over the place these days thanks to streaming services. Chances are loads of them are going to be crap, but there’s always the possibility of finding a good story here and there. So I blasted through … Continue reading

Would you rather watch…
Ouija. It Follows. Would You Rather. There’s no rather. There’s no contest. If I had it to do all over again, I would only watch one of these three films. And here’s why. WOULD YOU RATHER (2012) If you’ve seen … Continue reading
Bleeding Hearts – sexploitation horror comedy torture porn?
As trashy as Bleeding Hearts is, I can’t deny that I was totally entertained. Tony Todd’s intro appearance is completely irrelevant to the rest of the film—and doesn’t even do much for the movie-within-a-movie from which it comes. Bleeding Hearts … Continue reading
This is no throwback slasher
A while back I blogged about totally whacked grindhouse Halloween slasher flick Splash Area by director George Clarke (blog here). So how to follow up such a twisted indie horror? Make another one just as out there. Actually, I think … Continue reading
