Concept Media (directors Shawn Burkett and Ryan Stacy) brings us Seasons Greetings, a short, 40-minute collection of holiday horror shorts—and anyone who has seen the anthology Watch This will recognize several of the characters and situations, as there’s crossover! My blog about Watch This is here.
What better way to open a Christmas anthology than with a wraparound featuring a beary boy taking his lady friend into the woods to chop down a tree? However, it’s not the tree getting the axe…
The first story is a quickie that makes that damn Elf on the Shelf concept everything I would have feared it would be as a child. Season’s slashing, for sure.
The second story is part of a set of serialized shorts called “Ladies Night,” in which a group of young women regularly picks up hot guys just so they can mutilate the guys—even during the holidays! If you’ve seen any of the installments, you know what to expect, but brace yourself for the dis-“member”-ment, if you know what I mean. Nothing is left to the imagination.
The third and final story brings us back to the wraparound. The lumberjack-looking dude who did something awful in the woods at the beginning comes home to his lady…and pays for his evil doings when a demon appears. This one is pretty much a sequel to a story in Watch This.
Season’s Greetings gets right to the point in each story, delivers the gore, and has a soundtrack that definitely captures the spirit of the season. It’s so short that it feels as if they could have either added one more story or added more meat to these. Hell, I wouldn’t mind seeing the killer elf get a full-length feature of his own!
